How companies can support a flexible working regime during the summer months
Summer is here and holidays, visits to swimming pools, and long summer days come with it. How to meet the needs of employees so that they remain productive during the summer, but can enjoy the summer days at the same time?
Summer working hours
Many companies reach for the so-called "summer Fridays", i.e. shortened Fridays, during which employees leave work earlier. Another option is to change the working hours from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., which will allow a better use of free afternoons.
Summer remote work
The summer months are an ideal opportunity for companies to test or expand the remote work model. If the character of the work allows, employees can mix their work from home, cottage or other places that provide them with comfort and concentration.
Holidays should not be underestimated
Encourage employees to plan their holiday in advance and allow them to take time off work according to their needs. A transparent team calendar and mutual agreement helps prevent both colleague absences and team tensions.
Support of mental wellbeing
The warm months can also be challenging - high temperatures, caring for children during the holidays or moving around more often. Companies can help by, for example, providing quiet zones for relaxation, an additional extra “wellness day” or informal team activities that are mood improving and strengthening the team.
A week without meetings
A pre-planned week without internal meetings helps you focus on your own work and at the same time makes it easier to work from various places.
Company ice cream days or fruit Mondays
Ice cream or fresh fruit once to twice per week in the office kitchen is a simple but pleasant treat that refreshes and boosts the mood in the team.
Internal "summer market" or swaps
During the summer, employees can bring books, clothes, plants or homemade products and exchange them among each other. It supports community, recycling, and a relaxed atmosphere within the team.
Summer challenge of healthy movement
Organize a voluntary team challenge - for instance "10,000 steps a day", "cycling to work" or "a week without elevator". It revitalizes the collective, promotes health, team spirit, and releases endorphins.
